Through my travels, I have become intrigued with people,
especially the way their heritage and individual strength of character is
reflected in their faces and posture. The people I’ve encountered have inspired
me to add figurative art to a repertoire that focused on landscape and wildlife painting for
more than 30 years.
Today, in addition to landscape and wildlife subjects, I
portray individuals from a variety of cultures and activities. I strive to
illustrate their unique qualities, painting and sculpting people with a range
of emotions and locations that will inspire my audience to remember specific
memories from their past. My artistic spirit thrives on pursuing several media,
which stimulates and challenges me to continually improve my techniques. With sculpture, I enjoy the three-dimensional process of
using wax and clay to give form, texture, and definition to express feeling and
movement. When painting, I use mixed media, such as acrylic, watercolor, and
pencil to accomplish a feeling of depth as well as detail. And, for expressive portraits, I prefer
colored pencils, which allow me to create fine detail and realistic skin and
hair tones.
I am a retired orthodontist, who has had a passion for creating art
for over 40 years. I have attended many art classes and workshops at Pacific Northwest College of Art and Mt. Hood Community College to constantly work on improving my techniques. I have shown my art in the Portland Open Studios, the
Audubon Wild Arts Festival, the Lake Oswego Festival of Arts, the Salem Art
Fair, the Portland Art Fair, the Bend Arts Festival, the Gresham Art Walk, the City of Gresham Visual Arts Center, the Clackamas County Art in Public Spaces, the Soda Creek Art Gallery in Sisters and several other Oregon art
galleries.
